Q. Do I need to be a Sydney Uni student to play football for the Club?
A. No. Anyone can play for Sydney Uni Soccer Football Club.
Q. How many teams does SUSFC have?
A. There are over 20 teams in total.
Two elite men’s teams in the Football NSW Super League and two elite women's teams in the FNSW Premier League. There are also three junior girls' teams.
Our second tier of Men's football is the Men's ESFA Premier League squad consisting of two teams.
In 2007, there were also 8 lower grade men’s teams in ESFA and 8 lower grade women’s teams in NWSWS. There is also one men's Over 35s team playing in the CDFSA. These numbers may change in 2008.
More information on the different SUSFC teams.
Q. What standard are the teams?
A. There are teams of almost all standards ranging from elite teams in the FNSW competitions, to social teams in eighth and ninth grade, and everything in between.
Q. When does the season start?
A. The season begins in March and runs through to August/September. If you want to join the Club, it is best to do so at the start of the season because there are very few spots available during the season.
Q. How do I join?
A. Before you can join the Club, you must be selected for a team at the trials. Once you are selected you will be asked to come to rego night to fill in your forms and pay your fees.
Q. When are the trials?
A. The trial dates (once they are set) are advertised on the home page of this website (Trial information). Anyone is welcome to show up for trials. For the majority of the lower grade teams, the main trials are held in the first week of Semester 1 (3 – 11 March in 2007). However, there may be other pre-season training before this, so keep monitoring the website.
Q. Where are the trials held?
A. The trials for lower grade teams will either be held on campus (The Square or St. Johns Oval) or at Wentworth Park. Check the website for details. Trials for the elite teams may be held at other off campus venues.
Q. What are my chances of making a team?
A. The Club tries to accommodate as many people who want to play football as possible. However, there is no guarantee that everyone will be selected in a team. Every year, more people come to trials than we can accommodate. So to give yourself the best chance, come to as many trials as you possibly can.
Q. Where do the teams play?
A. Most men’s lower grade teams play most of their home matches on campus and their away games in the Eastern Suburbs. Most lower grade women’s teams play all their games in the Gladesville area. The men's Over 35s play in the inner west.
Q. Where do the teams train?
A. Most teams will train on campus or at Wentworth Park one or two evenings a week.
Q. How much does it cost to play?
A. The fees for 2007 are set out here. Fees for 2008 have not yet been determined.
Q. Are there any social comps that I can enter a team into?
A. SU Sport runs their own social Indoor Soccer competitions at lunchtimes on campus. See the SU Sport website for more details. Evening Futsal competition are also run at the Uni by a company called Indoor5s. Note that these competitions are not run by SUSFC.
Q. Should I join SU Sport?
A. In order to play for the Club, you MUST be a member of SU Sport. However, joining SU Sport will not guarantee you a spot in the Club. You will still need to come trials to be selected in a team. Even if you do come to trials, there is no guarantee that you will be picked in a team. Unfortunately, we can only sign as many people as we can accommodate. So you should hold off joining SU Sport until you are selected in a team.
Q. Who do I contact if I have more questions?
A. Contact Terry Hogan, the Club Administrator on 9351 8113 or at t.hogan@susport.usyd.edu.au
